City of Hamilton CCTV cameras and private properties

Feb 13 2018

On February 7, 2018, Hamilton’s Council General Issues Committee passed a motion that staff work with Hamilton Police Services to review the current CCTV by-law as it applies to private homes and to assess the feasibility of amending it to permit the collection of personal information from public spaces for use by the police.

IPC Commissioner Beamish has addressed his concerns about the collection, use and disclosure of images from private cameras to aid law enforcement to Hamilton Mayor Eisenberger and Police Chief Girt.
